Who am I?
My name is Cori Sylvest. I was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on April 17, 1981. I attended Central Baptist Church up until my graduation from high school in 1999. I had the privilege to attend Central Baptist School from K-5 through 12th grade, and graduated as the valedictorian of my class. I was blessed beyond measure to sit under the preaching of Dr. B.G. Buchanan. Likewise, I was blessed to have as my teacher and coach Bro. Alan Bartlett.
Upon graduation from high school, I moved to Crown Point, Indiana from 1999 through 2002. There, I attended Hyles-Anderson College. I was again blessed to have the privilege to sit under great men of God such as Dr. Jack Hyles, Dr. Wendell Evans, and Dr. Jack Schaap. After college I moved to Hot Springs, Arkansas for a period of two and a half years. I attended Gospel Light Baptist Church, which is pastored by Dr. Eric Capaci. Again, I was privileged to sit under the ministry of a great man of God. In 2005, I moved to Aurora, Illinois, where I began working for Caterpillar, Inc. in their giant facility there. I loved that opportunity, and the experiences I gained while employed there are irreplaceable.
In 2008, I again began attending the First Baptist Church of Hammond, Indiana. I had the privilege of serving alongside and learning from some great people while there. I especially enjoyed being involved in the bus ministry and serving on a route captained by my friend, and neighbor at the time, Pat Cook. I was blessed to get to know Bro. Keith Cowling and his wonderful family during this time from being a member of his Sunday School class and serving under him in the bus ministry.
In 2010, I moved to Hattiesburg, Mississippi and joined the Central Baptist Church which is pastored by Bro. Dean Miller. It has always been my heart's desire to serve the Lord, and specifically in the capacity of teaching and youth ministry. After being a member of the church for some time, I was hired to be a part of the school staff. I served as the 4th grade teacher during the 2010-2011 school year. In 2011, I was moved into the high school to teach a number of subjects and assist with the boy's sports program. That is the capacity in which I currently serve. God's goodness and grace are evident in my life, and His blessings have been overwhelming! I am humbled to serve with such a dedicated, faithful staff here at Central Baptist Church and School!
